Demons

 Most of us have them.

Some of us know them.

Few of us get to like them.

I have a few.

And I only come at peace with my demons when we run together.

Sitting at home they get bored and anxious. Lingering is not their thing.

But when we run, they become alive and even powerful.

Sometimes they chase me.

Sometimes they guide me.

The better times we run side by side, discussing how to get along.

But I never leave them behind and they never let me stop.

They fuel my lungs and my heart. My legs and my head. They keep me hungry for more.

They are always talking. One more lap. One more kilometer. One more day. DO NOT STOP.

And they are always yelling THAT’S NOT ENOUGH.

I acknowledge them. We get to know each other.

It is by accepting them that I become stronger.

It is by accepting that which I cannot change, that I become fulfilled.

It is by fighting my battles that I reach my peace.

But I know that I still have many battles in front of me. Many kilometers.

Like me, the demons get stronger. Wiser. Bigger. Faster.

It is not necessarily a good thing, this relation. Yes, they push me, but sometimes they push me past the edge.

Yes, they take me to the summit, but sometimes they make me fall from there.

Where and what are my limits is something that I NEED to teach them.

But even I don’t know those limits.

So I have to keep pushing.

And I gotta keep my demons close.

So I can get to know them even better.

And they never take me by surprise.

So I am always prepared.

And I never stop.

DO

NOT

STOP
